Alan was born on September 16th 1953, the third of five sons of Hubert and Margaret Gallais. Growing up on the family farm in the Ethelton District, Alan developed a strong love for horses at an early age which continued through to the time of his death. He attended Grades 1 – 7 at Harriville School, followed by Grades 8 – 12 in Kinistino, Saskatchewan. A hard worker his entire life, Alan built his family farm in 1982, where he raised his children, Nicole, Trixie and Dustin. He had a talent for making and fixing machinery, turning and creating beautiful wood work and was a draft horse enthusiast, raising teams of Percheron, Belgian and various other draft horses. He loved nothing better than talking about horses and participating in horse-pull competitions, winning both provincial and national competitions with his teams and making life-long friends across the country. He was fearless when it came to breaking horses. When he was no longer physically able to compete in competitions, he moved on to judging the competitors, many of whom he had previously competed against. In 2020, Alan decided to reduce the size of his farming operation and moved to an acreage at Silver Park with the love of his life, Wendy Smith. Not ready to give up all of his horses, he continued to have a team of Haflingers together with a team of mules. Alan was always willing to hitch up the team to take Wendy, friends, family and grandkids on wagon and sleigh rides and those memories will live on in our hearts forever. Alan is survived and deeply missed by his best friend and life partner, Wendy Smith; his three children, Nicole, Trixie and Dustin; stepsons, James (Jenna), Danny, and Blair (Laura) Smith; grandchildren Meryssa, Alexa and Taylor Smith, Ace and Wyatt Gallais, Jessica, Caytlin and Eric Edge; his mother Margaret and brothers, Art (Marion), Terry (Iris), Ralph (Peggy), and Mike (Lianne) Gallais, mother-in-law Blondie (Mildred) Siegel, sisters-in-law Joan Meyer, June (Ken) Bartel, Beverly (Jake) Pavelich and Bettyann Cox, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alan was predeceased by his father Hubert in 1994. Memorial contributions in memory of Alan may be directed to the Silver Park Community Hall.
