Barry Kaminskas (Iris's son) Mom was first and foremost the wife of a farmer. Mom told me when I was born it was in the middle of harvest. Being the wife of a farmer, when the baby was close to coming, you didn’t measure the time between contractions – you measured the time between grain truck loads. For maximum efficiency Dad dropped mom off at the hospital to give birth to the newest farm hand on the way to the grain elevator with a load of wheat. The farm was always full of animals – cows, pigs, turkeys and chickens. Mom cared for and loved them all – well almost all of them. I still remember a day before I started school when mom headed out to the barn to milk the cow. On that particular day the cow and mom did not get along. Mom came into the house covered in spilt milk and fresh manure and proceeded to give a vocabulary lesson that likely wasn’t appropriate for a preschooler! Mom loved to donate her time to various clubs such as the UCW – a club she belonged to and led for over 30 years. She helped organize and cater hundreds of birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. By conservative estimates she would have made 10s of thousands of cabbage rolls and perogies. The UCW became so renowned for their Ukrainian food that under mom’s watch they considered a name change from the United Church Women’s Club to the ‘Holy Cabbage Rollers” or the “Protestant Perogie Pinchers” (that may have just been a rumor however) Mom loved people - Something that all of you may not have realized but mom knew and remembered each one of your birthdays or anniversaries. At the beginning of each year when the new calendars came out, mom would write everyone’s name, birthday and anniversary onto the fresh calendar from memory so she would know who to phone or see that day – mom you were truly amazing. I love you mom – please give dad a hug from me.

My sincere condolences to Iris’s family. I met Iris and her sister Sonia when I was in High School in Spalding. After high school our life paths took different directions. Iris married Alex who was our neighbour on the farm , while I went on to University at the U of S and then Western University in London Ontario. I always enjoyed seeing Iris during my annual family visits to Spalding.

Condolences to the family. We enjoyed our visits back and forth in Melfort, and meeting Iris at the curling rink. We can say that Iris enjoyed her retirement living off the farm as she gained new friends in melfort.

Randy and family - our very deepest condolences ❤️. I have a wonderful memory of first meeting Iris, at your “under construction” home with many family for Easter. It was wonderful to meet her with her grandkids all around. She welcomed me with open arms as one of your family and I loved her wit and humour, and her of course her cooking. She passed some of her cooking skills and special recipes on to Ali, who when she was here shared those special recipes with our family, a special legacy gift. ❤️ Take care, xo. Many hugs.
