I have a great memory I would like to share with Max’s family.
None of you have met me, and I do not know any of you either, but I met your Dad, Grandfather, and Uncle on a Westjet flight. I’ll set the scene.
I’m a biologist from Saskatoon; I was travelling for work dressed in my best “field clothes” and was seated at the back of the bus. Now, I can’t remember exactly where I was headed but your Max, was all decked out in his green rider outfit. I shove my backpack and computer into the overhead bin and take my seat beside this rider fan.
So where are you from in Saskatchewan? Max replied, “even if I told you where I was from you wouldn’t even know where it is”. I said, “try me, I’ve travelled quite a bit for work”. Max says, “Creighton, SK”. Well, as it happens, I have worked up in that area, The Pas, Snow Lake and places in between.
Max told me he was on his way to England to visit with his family that he hadn’t seen for a very long time. I must let you know, he was very excited to be going back. That was one of the shortest flights I’ve ever been on, as we talked the entire 1.5hr flight.
We departed the plane, and I said, “I have to visit the ladies’ room” and thought that I would never see him again, nice guy. I come out of the ladies’ room and guess who is standing there waiting for me, Max. He walked me to the seating area of my next flight, gave me a big hug and said, “if you ever find yourself in Creighton, I’ll take you out fishing”. He never did give me his number, but he said just ask anyone there where to find Max Owen and they will point you in the right direction.
I’m so sorry to hear of Max’s sudden passing I’m sure he is missed by everyone that knew him.
