Obituary of Darrel Bruce Severight
Please share a memory of Darrel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Darrel was born on July 3, 1980 to Crystal and Brian Smith in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan. He lived with Moshum Gilbert, Kokum Clara, and his cousin Candy in his younger years till he moved to Regina with his mom and step father Joseph Longman who raised him. Darrel lived in Regina from 1984-1991 where he welcomed his sisters Cynthia, Lauren, and Christine, and his brother Trevor. After that, he grew up in Melfort and remained there well into adulthood.
He met his wife Amanda Haugerud in Melfort, Saskatchewan, and together they had 4 beautiful girls, Paityne, Kayla, Payge and Kloey and 1 boy Logan who he absolutely adored. He was not overruled by girls at this point. He loved his family wholeheartedly and bragged about his beautiful wife Amanda and their children. He had special nicknames for each child. Amanda and Darrel ran away secretly to Las Vegas to get married and surprised everyone when they came back. Darrel had 3 grandchildren, Damyne, Brielle, and Easton. He was so proud of his children when he found out they were going to be parents.
Many people know Darrel from when he worked at Damar. He was always full of jokes and had a sarcastic sense of humour. He made a lot of friends and had lasting friendships.
One friendship that remained intact was his friendship with Dean MacNevin. You never knew what kind of trouble those two would get into, then you add Jeremy Simon into the mix. But they always remained strong and in touch.
Darrel had a close bond with his uncle Lindsay and those two were more like brothers. Trevor was his only brother and they had such a special bond. He loved his brother very much.
Before Darrel passed, he told his children “my sisters are crazy but I love them”.
Darrel loved his mother and was definitely a “mama’s boy”. A bond that could never be broken. All he wanted before his passing was his mom and children and maybe some McDonalds too.
Darrel will be lovingly remembered for his humour, kindness, and how he treated people.
