Today we celebrate the life of Herbert Oris Holoien, born April 30,
1938, passed away February 26, 2025.
He was one of eight children of Peder and Martha Holoien, and
half brother Wes Solberg. He was raised on a farm in the Lenvale
district.
He worked for Sigfrid Johnnason Telephones and later was part
of the Holoien Brothers Telephone line construction for several
years. Then he also drove truck and eventually started his own
business as Holoien Trucking, and hauled for Co-op and farmers
in the area.
Herb was a sports icon in the Melfort area, being involved in
bowling, hockey, golfing, and fastball. If he wasn’t playing he was
coaching. He was instrumental in the development of sporting
venues in the Melfort area. He also loved to watch his grandson,
Grayson, play football and hockey.
He leaves to mourn, his partner Susan, his children Kevin and
Michelle (Robert) Mckee, and grandson Grayson and his mom,
Lisa McLean, his brother Doug (Maxine Holoien) and sister,
Dianne Olson, sister in law, Evelyn Holoien, brother in law, Jim
White, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Uncle Herb held a
special place in their heart.
Gone on before Herb, are his parents Peder and Martha Holoien,
family members Wes and Lois Solberg, Leonard Holoien, Lester
and Caroline Holoien, Muriel and Murray Skwark, Shirley White
and Darlene and Bill Cenaiko, brother in law, Blaine Olson.
