Obituary
Please share a memory of Lucas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lucas Wittig, who tragically left us far too soon at the age of 21 on July 15.
Born in Saskatoon, SK on March 10, 2004, Lucas brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. Lucas was known for being a “man of few words”. But those who knew him well, knew the true depth of his soul and the strength behind his quiet smile. He faced adversity with resilience and responded to challenges with courage, independence, and a deep capacity for love. He had a kind heart, generous spirit, and was quick-witted. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and he showed up for the people he loved.
Lucas grew up in Melfort, SK. As a child and teen, he liked spending time outdoors with his father fishing and going on off-roading adventures. From his dad, he learned about car mechanics, and developed a passion for tinkering with vehicles. Highlights of his childhood included summers spent at Candle Lake with his parents, siblings and Porter grandparents, vacations to South Dakota with his Wittig grandparents, and sleepovers and visits with aunties and uncles. He shared a special bond with his sister Kelly - the two shared countless inside jokes, and knew they always had each others’ backs. Although Josh, Sarah and Sophia were much younger than him, Lucas always found ways to connect with them, through board games, video games and with his goofy sense of humour. As a result, they adored him. Lucas was close with his grandparents, and, over the years, they spent many hours enjoying each other’s company (and his grandmother’s cooking!). As Lucas grew into a young adult, his interests included gaming, getting together with friends, exercising, and spending quality time with loved ones.
Lucas attended Maude Burke and Reynolds Central elementary schools and graduated from MUCC. While in high school, he enjoyed the sports of archery and football and learned to play the tuba. He built lasting friendships in high school that remained strong throughout the course of his life. After graduation, Lucas attended the University of Saskatchewan for one year before returning to Melfort to work at Home Hardware, Bourgault and, where he was working at the time of his passing, North East Outreach and Support Services.
Lucas began a relationship with his girlfriend Emma a little under a year ago. Since he was such a private individual, his family knew it must be love when he started bringing her to holiday get togethers and family gatherings. But it wasn’t just Emma that stole Lucas’ heart, he also fell for her dog as well, a giant, slobbery mastiff named Huck. Then just before Christmas, Lucas opened his heart to another tiny puppy in need of rescue. He named him Rhino (due to the puppy’s rambunctious nature) and was determined to tame the rowdy mischief maker through a little bit of training and a lot of love and patience. Rhino is now on his way to rivaling Huck for size, and we know both dogs are going to miss him terribly.
Lucas will be forever missed by his father, Christopher Wittig (Leigh-anne Bear); his step-mother, Christine Wittig; his siblings, Kelly, Josh, Sarah and Sophia; his grandparents, Randy and Sandi Wittig, and Alan and Dianne Porter; his aunts and uncles, Becky (Jason) Kaptein, Brennan Wittig, David (Jen) Porter, and Rachelle (Vitaliy) Khyzhnyak; his cousins, Kinley, Breyton, Kingston, Gabriella, and Naytan; his great-grandmother, Noreen Bembridge; his girlfriend, Emma Obsniuk; members of the Tony family; his numerous close friends; and many extended family and loved ones.
He is predeceased by his great-grandparents, Mervyn and Muriel Wittig; great-grandfather William Bembridge; half-brother Tyler Tony; and close friend, Chayce Garchinski.
Though his time with us was far too short, Lucas’ spirit, compassion and light will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
