Barbara Evelyn Smith was born in North Battleford, SK on Feb. 9, 1941 to John Donald (Jack) and Edwinnia (Eddie) Smith. They later moved to Prince Albert, Star City then Melfort in 1948. The Smith’s were in the restaurant business and Barb was known as the little one on the coke box at the cash register. After finishing school she worked at Finnie’s Men’s Wear and Dry Cleaners. Then later after raising her kids, she worked for George and Edna McDonald in the restaurant at the Hi-Lo Motel. Later Barb was hired by Eaton’s where she managed the catalogue division of the store until it closed.
In 1982 she started her life with Vern Carswell. Vern and Barb had the moving & storage, the garbage detail and later Purolator Courier businesses. In her retirement years she worked in the clothing stores at the Fashion Nook and Rola Fashion Wears.
In 2002 Barb and Vern got their precious dog Chico so Vern would go for walks, but we all know how that turned out. Regardless that dog was treated like royalty.
In the later years they spent the winters in Florida, Barb was an active member in Eastern Star, Rotary, the Red Hat Society and a Legion member. She will be missed by all.
Barb is predeceased by her husband Vern, her daughter Tammy and her parents John Donald (Jack) and Edwinnia (Eddie) Smith.
Barb is survived by her brother Frank (Dian) Smith, her son Kirk Boe, two grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and those she called her special friends.
There will be a private family interment at a later date.
