Daphne Sturby (nee Laplante) passed suddenly 10th of September, 2025 surrounded by beloved family and friends. Daphne was the 6th of 10 children born to Louis and Joyce (nee Kingsland) Laplante of St. Louis, Sk on the 18 of January 1952. She graduated high school and relocated to Melfort to study to be a nurses' aid. It was there that she met Don, her future husband.
They would marry in 1972 and go on to have 2 daughters, Christine and Michelle (Terry). Daphne would devote herself to raising her girls. Don and Daphne opened a corner store, Bridgeway Market, where Daphne continued to raise her daughters and run the business. A few years later, they sold the store and opened a movie rental store, first the Video Station then later United Video. Daphne excelled at each business. In later years Daphne worked at various jobs. Don passed away in 2016, and shortly after she retired from the Coop Produce department.
Daphne was very invested in her girls. She enrolled her daughters in Ukrainian Dance, teaching herself to cross-stitch to make their costumes. She very much enjoyed her retirement, spending her last years puttering around her home, watching her shows, playing her games, watching her Riders and Canadians and staying in touch with her large family. Family was important to Daphne.
Daphne was kind, smart, no-nonsense, hard working, fun and funny. She had a quick-wit and loved to tease and joke. She adored her nieces and nephews, and her great nieces and nephews and was renowned as Aunty Dodo. She adored her pet cats and often would feed and rename any feline that happened to cross her path. She loved gardening and reading, sharing this love with both her girls.
Daphne is survived by her daughters, Christine and Michelle (Terry) and siblings Avis, Jim, Ken (Donna), Marty (Linda), Rosemary (Larry), Pauline, Judy, Gail and Wendy.
