Obituary of Donald Bruce Wingfield
Donald Bruce Wingfield was born on May 2nd, 1949 at Nipawin, Saskatchewan to Richard and
Dorothy Wingfield. Richard worked for the railroad and the family moved all around the
Province for many years.
On his 17th birthday, his mother drove him to Regina where he joined the Navy. He ended up
being stationed in Halifax and he got to travel to several Caribbean countries during his time in
the Navy as a Radar Operator. By the time he got out of the Navy, the family had moved to
Kinistino. That is where he met his future wife, Jean Louise Gunderson.
Don married Jean Gunderson on July 24th, 1971 at Kinistino. Together they had two children,
Michael and Shannon.
Don got on with National Grain in Kinistino in 1969 and eventually signed on with the
Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Don and Jean continued the tradition of moving around the
province with his work living in Scott, Wilkie, Rutland, Asquith, Melfort, Nipawin and then his
final elevator in Weldon with the family living in Kinistino. Don retired from the Wheat Pool in
1999.
Part of his retirement allowed for a re-training allowance which he used to take computer repair
at Cumberland College in Melfort. Don turned his love for technology into a retirement gig and
spent most of his retirement years fixing and building computers.
Don also was an avid genealogist. He spent many years researching his and Jean’s family
trees.
He curled, bowled, golfed, played ball, fished and also helped out on the Gunderson farm. You
could also find Don almost every morning at Chambers’ garage for coffee.
Don was predeceased by his sister Norma; his parents Richard and Dorothy; In-laws Orval and
Catherine Gunderson and Larry Gunderson and nephew David Jackson.
Don is survived by his loving wife Jean, son Michael(Tammy), daughter Shannon(Steve),
Grandchildren Jessika(Tyler), Hannah, Clover and Willow
Great Grandchildren Skylar, Benji, Nova and Aurora
He is also survived by his sister Corinne(Jim), brother James(Maureen) and many nieces,
