Joyce was born to Ernest & Ella Palmer on her parents homestead near Brooksby. She attended Willow Valley School and in 1939, married Oscar Albert Hurd in Arborfield. They lived there until 1944 when they purchased a farm in the Pleasant Valley district. In 1956 they moved into Melfort while still working on the farm. Joyce was active in Eastern Star, the Rebecca Lodge, the Agricultural Society and was a charter member of the Parkland Auxiliary. She was also an avid golfer, bridge player and curler. She was predeceased by her husband Oscar in 1982 and by her brothers Charlie, Albert, and George. She leaves to mourn her loss, Her sister Evelyn and her children Lawrence, (Lynne) Blanche, (Pat) and Beverley,(Randall) and their families.
