Obituary
(Mary) Jean Taylor was born on March 3, 1932 to Henry and (Isabell) Belle Cummings in Arborfield, Saskatchewan. She was the fourth of five siblings, Vernon, Elmer, Marjorie and Garth. Jean attended school in Arborfield and worked at the family owned, Cummings General Store until she married Lloyd when she was 22. Lloyd and Jean were married July 21, 1954 in Arborfield. After marrying, they moved to Taylorside where they farmed and raised their family on the same land where Lloyd was born and raised. They had four children Laurie Lloyd, Kent Archie, Patti-Jean, who passed away shortly after birth, and Wendi Jean. Jean accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 12. Jean was part of the assembly at the Taylorside Gospel Hall all her married life. The fellowship she enjoyed with family, friends and members of the community gave her immeasurable joy. Hospitality and cooking were an important part of Jean’s life and she was known for always offering a wonderful home cooked meal which often included her famous popovers, homemade buns and fancy desserts. Jean loved living on the farm, tending her flowers and having a large garden to feed her family throughout the year. Spending time visiting and eating with family were highlights for Jean and she was always ready to share a cup of coffee and her delicious baking. From 1984 until 2010, Lloyd and Jean enjoyed a couple months each winter in Yuma, Arizona with family and friends. They often travelled with Jean’s sister, Marjorie and Harold Thesen and her brother Elmer and Peggy Cummings. Lloyd and Jean enjoyed cruises through the Carribean, the Baltic Sea and Panama, as well as trips throughout the United States. One of Jean’s favourite places to spend time with family was Waskesiu Lake, where she holidayed from the time she was a baby. Even though she enjoyed all her vacations, Jean always commented upon return that she was happy to be home and there was no better place in the world to be than Canada, and especially Saskatchewan. In April 2018, Jean moved to Parkland Place where she received wonderful care from all the staff. Jean passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on November 7, 2019. Jean will be greatly missed. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 65 years, Lloyd and their children: Laurie (Pat) Erin, Bryn and Sean; Kent (Maureen) Brett (Kelly) and Riley (Holly); and, Wendi (Stan) Laine and Reid. Jean is also survived by her brother Garth (Lorraine), sister-in-law Peggy and brother-in- law Harold, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter Patti-Jean, her parents Henry and Isabell, her brother Vernon, his wife Muriel, her brother Elmer and her sister Marjorie. Memorial contributions in memory of Jean may be directed to Parkland Place Residents Council, Melfort, Sask.
