Obituary
Lorna Anne Gunderson (nee McAvoy) was born October 15th, 1941 to Phil and Doris McAvoy. Lorna was the second oldest of 5 children and was raised on a farm just south of Star City. Lorna had fond memories of growing up on a dairy farm and told many stories that involved early morning milking and the carrying of milk cans up to the house. Lorna attended school in Star City and eventually went on to Business College in Saskatoon in 1959.
After returning from Business College, Lorna worked at the grocery store in Star City. In 1962 Lorna changed jobs to the Bank of Nova Scotia and then eventually became the first employee of the Star City Credit Union in about 1965. She married Gerald (Gerry) Gunderson on July 27th, 1968 and moved to Melfort shortly after this and transferred to the Credit Union there.
In 1970/71, Lorna, Gerry, Jim and Betty Anne Kielbiski went on a tour of Europe before returning back to Melfort where they opened a flower shop with Walter and Jean Garchinski. Lorna and Jean Garchinski ran the flower shop for numerous years. Lorna had various other jobs before returning back to the flower shop business in 2002 and retiring officially in 2007.
Lorna enjoyed visiting, and travelling with friends and family. One trip that she spoke often of was the trip she took with her sister Gail in 2001 to New Zealand to watch her nephew race jet boats.
Lorna’s greatest times were spent with her family and friends and in recent years her two granddaughters Natalie and Savannah. She will be remembered for her quick wit and her uncanny ability to simply speak her mind.
Lorna is survived by her son Jason & Shannon and their daughter Savannah and her son Kevin and his daughter Natalie.
She will be missed by her brothers Ron and Duane (Debbie) and sisters Gail (Jim) and Donna (Chris), and many nephews and nieces.
Lorna was predeceased by her loving husband of 29 years Gerry Gunderson, mother and father Doris and Phil McAvoy and sister in law Earla and her good friend Helen Boe.
Mom, you will always be remembered and never forgotten.
