Dorothy Kristina Wikstrom (nee Haggstrom) was born January 26 1941 and raised on the farm near Kinistino, SK to Parents Dagny & Andrew Haggstrom. She attended Haggstrom School until Grade 10. She then worked at the OK Economy store in Kinistino as a cashier. Dorothy went on to attend Hairdressing School in Saskatoon. She was briefly married to Albert Erickson until his passing in 1964. On October 8, 1966 she married John Wikstrom. They moved to Snow Lake Manitoba where she opened her hair salon and together they also operated a bakery. Two sons were born in Snow Lake, MB Kelly in 1967 and Curtis in 1972. They moved to Kitimat, BC and she continued working as a hairdresser as well as working at the "Shop Easy" grocery store. John & Dot moved to Melfort to work for her mother Dagny and brother Ken in the family business the Come & Go Grocery. When the Come & Go grocery closed she then worked two jobs, KFC & Melfort Group Home until retirement. Dorothy was heavily involved with Special Olympics since 1988. Dorothy and John were instrumental in implementing the curling program for Saskatchewan Special O. She along with John coached various Special O sports but coaching curling was her main calling and passion. She & John received the National Jim Thompson Award in 2018 for outstanding dedication and volunteer service to the Special Olympics Movement in Canada. Dot was a long-time member of All Saints Anglican Church. Three grandchildren were born to Son Kelly & Wife Sandy. Jordan, born in 1991, Kristina, born & passed in 1993, and Jessica, born in 1994. A sad time in their lives was the passing of their Son Curtis in 2010. John & Dorothy both retired & enjoyed trips by car & air travel holidays to US, Thailand & across Canada. They enjoyed the freedom of retirement. In 2016 John & Dot celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dorothy was predeceased by her Mom (Dagny 2007), her dad (Andrew 1965 ). Her brothers, Ken (2017), Richard (1998) and Gordie (1981) son Curtis 2010 & granddaughter Kristina in 1993. Dorothy writes "Your memory is our keepsake with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our hearts". Left to mourn her Passing are Husband John, Son Kelly (Sandy) and grandchildren Jordan (gf Montana) & Jessica (bf Marc) and Dots special brother Ken Hunkin. She also leaves behind Special Niece’s, extended family as well as her Church family and so many good friends she has made along the way.
