Obituary
Richard (Rick) Eldon Isberg was born on September 22, 1947 in Melfort, SK to parents Elmer and Florence. He passed away in Melfort on Saturday May 25, 2019 after a brief battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Rick was raised on the family homestead in North Star along with his older sister Lonnie and younger brothers David and Darwin. He enjoyed riding his horse (Muffin), playing hockey in the Little Four League in North Star, and playing fastball with the North Star Oil Kings. Rick attended North Star school until the end of grade 7, then transferred into Kinistino for the remainder of his truncated high school career. After extricating himself from the public school system, Rick ironically took a construction job helping to build the Melfort & Unit Comprehensive Collegiate. For his first day on the job, he carried in a saw, hammer and apron provided to him by his father, and was quickly upgraded by the foreman to a shovel and pick. He then took a job in Toronto with his uncle Horton Boyce as a steel worker on the Toronto Dominion Center skyscraper. Upon his return to Saskatchewan, in his beloved 1966 Ford 7 Litre Convertible, he took a job with Thorpe Brothers in PA, then with A L Charlebois in Saskatoon. There he became a very good welder (self taught), so much so that when welding needed to be done Rick was the only one they would call. On April 8, 1972 Rick married Wendy Lee Malmgren in Melfort, and they remained married until Wendy’s death on October 15, 2015. Together they had two boys - Jay and Sean. In 1974, he traded in his 1969 Dodge Super Bee for a Dodge ½ ton and took his family back to the farm where he remained until his passing. During his adult years, Rick enjoyed hunting in Moosomin and Hudson Bay, fishing at Jan Lake in the summer, ice fishing at Deschambault, and anything related to farming. He liked to watch his grandchildren play sports, often reminding them of his own athletic prowess in his earlier years after one of their particularly strong performances. Rick is survived by his son Jay (Annette), Jordan and Tyler. Jay lives with his family near Okotoks, AB working in the energy sector. Son Sean (Jeannelle), Mackenzie, Liv, Ellie, Dani and Evan. Sean lives with his family in Melfort and has been farming with Rick since 2001. He also leaves behind his brother Darwin (Kathie) Isberg, and sister-in-laws Pat Malmgren, Rosemary Malmgren, Shelley (Arthur) Holmes, and Kathy (George) Blair as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by parents Elmer and Flo Isberg, his loving wife Wendy Isberg, sister and brother in-law Stan and Lonnie Sinclair, and brother David Isberg, Father and Mother-in-law Alf and Margaret Malmgren, and brother-in-law Wes Malmgren. Memorial contributions in memory of Rick may be directed to North Central Health District: Designated to Palliative Care Furnishings. P.O. Box 1480 Melfort,SK S0E 1A0
