Obituary
Gladys Ellen Holmgren was born in the Kirkton district Sept 17, 1925. She was the oldest of 10 siblings born to John & Greta Erickson. In April of 1945, she married Clarence Hjalmar Johnson, who was taken from her in a tragic car accident in December of 1961. In 1964 she married Hjalmar Holmgren and took on the role of being mother to Carl, Eleanor, Dale & Doreen, and in 1966 the addition of Barbara being born. She took the duties of grandparenting very seriously, with the practice she had from Carl & Eleanor’s children, she was extra exceptional when it came time for Dale & Barbs kids. Gladys was very active in her community, she played a big part in the Norden Hospital Auxiliary, the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies, and later the Half Century Club. Gladys was always baking, knitting & crocheting many items, of these most were donated to various bake sales and bazars. Many afghans, doilies and quilts were made and given to become treasured memories of Gladys. Gladys is survived by her daughter Barbara (Brock) Irvine; grandchildren Dawson, Duston & Jocelyn (Jonathan) Schmitt, great-grandchildren Madison, Mackenzie & Sadie. Doreen (Randy) Chapman. Dale (Arvella); grandchildren Kristen (Kevin) Froelich, great-grandchildren Beckett & Quinn. Kimberly (Brad)Cumming great-grandchildren Vaughn & Royce. Kyle (Steve). Eleanor (Stan) Pederson; grandchildren Bob (Deb): Grandchildren Evan (Shelby), Carlyne, great-grandchild Maverick, Kendra (Gordon) Mueller, great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Mitchell and Madison. Terry (Theresa) great grandchildren Jeremy and Jesse, Ryan. Carl (Elaine); grandchildren Greg (Tanya) great-grandchildren Magnus and Elija, Cathy. Brother Ron and sister Rose Bradly. She was predeceased by husbands Clarence Hjalmar Johnson, Hjalmar Natanial Holmgren, granddaughter Shelly, sisters Agnes Mickelson, Karen MacGillivray, Edith Johnson, brothers Albert, Fred, Alfred & Ken and parents John and Greta.
