Obituary
Marcelle Jack, best known as Marcy, was born, with a twin sister, to John and Mary Novak, who farmed near Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan. The girls were born on September 15th, 1930, but due to a delayed registration of the births, they were recorded as October 15th,1930 on their birth certificates. The twins were number 6 and 7 of the children and were followed by 2 more girls to complete the family of 8 girls and 1 brother.
Marcy Novak attended school in Yellow Creek and graduated in 1948.
In 1950 Marcy met and married Alexander Thomas Jack, a young farmer just down the road at Meskanaw. The couple had 6 children; Lois first, Bobby Glen who passed at birth, then Ron, Les, Cindy, and Brenda. They were grain farmers with livestock and both worked on the farm, where Marcy tended the home, large gardens & harvests, and the children, even sewing the clothes for her younger daughters. Together Alex and Marcy enjoyed square dancing, following all the kids sports when they could, cooking for and entertaining friends and family, fishing, flying, and sharing their passion for curling – playing themselves when younger and watching on tv for days on end when the Brier was on.
In 1996 Alex and Marcy made the decision to move to Melfort; purchasing a house and leaving the farming to sons Ron and Les to carry on. They adjusted to the “city life”, spent several winters in Arizona in an itsy-bitsy trailer, travelled to events in Japan and Ottawa and enjoyed this home for twelve years. When yard work became a chore to upkeep, they made a move to a smaller, functional condo in 2008. Shortly after, Alex sadly passed away following a short illness in 2009. Marcy stayed in their condo for several years until the next move took her to an apartment in the Diefenbaker senior high rise. She had a garden plot and more community around her here until she took residence in Weldon Care Home in the summer of 2021.
It was known to be Marcy’s nature to always care for the well being of those around and to provide for and feed her visitors. From preparing large meals on the farm to feed many, whether in the field or at the table, to sharing small plates of spam and crackers in her room over instant coffee. If you were visiting, you could expect to be eating or need to have an account of the last time that you did. In this spirit, Marcy and Alex had began hosting the Jack Family Christmas meal annually at their farm, bringing everyone together until it outgrew the house, carried into the Meskanaw hall and then continued throughout Marcy’s life.
Leaving us her legacy, she will be forever cherished and missed by; Her children; Lois (& Dennis) Spagrud, Ron (& Barb) Jack, Les (& Melanie) Jack, Cindy (& Earl) Macfie and Brenda (& Alvin) Moore, with their families, making 35 grandchildren and 45 great grand children. As well as two older sisters, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We will miss you down here but thank you for everything.
With gratitude in our hearts for her long life, we sadly said goodbye to Marcy as she left us the morning of April 4th, 2022, at the age of 91, surrounded by her loving family who was at her side day and night.
Predeceasing her were an infant son, 6 sisters, a brother, 5 brother in laws, a sister-in-law, and her husband Alex, who she will now be reunited with.
Our hearts will never be without you.
