Obituary
Astrid Vivian Stafford passed away at the age of 87 on October 14, 2015 at Melfort, Saskatchewan. She was born November 1, 1927 to Anton and Elin Bergren of Gronlid, being the 2nd youngest of 7 children. Astrid married Earle Stafford on November 1, 1946. As the years went by, November 1 was always a triple celebration as both of them were born on November 1..2 birthdays and an anniversary! Astrid always kept busy looking after her husband and family, and at the same time she had the Post Office at Ratner. She later worked at the Gronlid Post Office and drove bus. Mom sewed a lot and us girls had a new outfit for every special occasion. I don’t know how she did it, but I’m pretty sure she never got much sleep. She also sewed for other people and always did a perfect job. Mom kept a big garden and made sure she preserved all those veggies and fruit to last the winter. Mom and Dad spent many wonderful times at the lake, fishing, swimming, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. They enjoyed curling and square dancing, and did lots of cross country skiing. Each fall they went hunting together. Family times at the farm usually included a ball game in summer, snowmobiling in winter. These times were always followed by one of mom’s famous delicious meals. She sure could cook! Nothing was ever too much trouble for her where her family was concerned. Her grandchildren were very special to her and they all remember the many yummy treats grandma used to make. When the great grandchildren arrived she always looked forward to seeing them too. She enjoyed hearing about their pets, sports, art work they did or just seeing pictures of them. She loved us all! In later years, with failing health, Astrid & Earle moved to Melfort. Astrid was living at Parkland at the time of her passing. I know the staff there will miss her. She was so lovingly cared for and she really liked her home there. Astrid is survived by her daughter Judi and her husband David, Bonnie and her husband Bob, her daughter-in-law Debbie, her son Peter and his wife Naomi. As well as 10 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 25 great grandchildren. Astrid was predeceased by her dear and loving husband Earle Harold Stafford, her son Robert Earle Stafford, granddaughter-in-law Amie Lee Wingert and great granddaughter Jaime Lynn Taylor Wingert. Memorial services were held on Saturday October 24, 2015 from the Gronlid Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Todd Goudy officiating. Interment took place at the Ratner Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Astrid may be directed to the Ranter Cemetery Fund and/or Gronlid Willing Workers.
