Obituary
Maurice "Moe" Simoneau passed away peacefully on August 13, 2017, surrounded by his family. Maurice courageously battled prostate cancer and heart issues, with determination, faith and a positive spirit. He ultimately succumbed to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and associated effects. The strength he exhibited during this fight was remarkable and his resolve didn’t waiver. Maurice was born Sept. 17, 1940 to Claude and Caroline Simoneau. He grew up in Mistatim Saskatchewan where as a child he enjoyed a wide variety of sports, being coached by his father and being on the same hockey and baseball teams as his siblings. He helped his father and mother with the family store, specifically delivering fuel to local farmers in the area. Moe always maintained a close bond with his family, and with Christ. Following high school, Maurice achieved his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan followed by his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Alberta. He married Marie Anderson on May 11, 1968, they lived in Melfort Saskatchewan and were blessed with three children, Darcy, Rochelle and Maury. Maurice was known as the Dentist of Northeast Saskatchewan, practicing in Melfort for 45 years and having patients who came to him from a large geographical area and from many surrounding communities. Maurice enjoyed golfing with his friends, fishing with his children and family, and spending time with and entertaining family and friends at their cottage at Candle Lake. His love of the outdoors was something that all will remember if they knew Moe. There was never a shortage of storytelling and joking if Maurice was involved in a discussion or gathering with friends. He was passionate about people, valuing the many relationships he had and holding them near and dear to his heart. Similarly, Moe was passionate about sports, and was a fixture in the Melfort rinks over the years and offered much of his time in ensuring local teams and affiliations had the support and guidance they needed to be successful. His involvement with The Melfort TM’s and Melfort Mustang Junior Hockey Clubs was commendable. Moe had a specific passion for one hockey club in particular, his Montreal Canadiens. Similar to his passion for hockey, Moe’s faith was very strong and he was actively involved in his local church and served with the Knights of Columbus. Maurice is survived by Marie, his loving wife of 49 years; his sons Darcy (Wendy) and Maury (Terri); his daughter Rochelle (Kim); his grandchildren Brooke, Shaz-Marie, Shaynah, Toryn, Karver, Salix and Locke. Maurice also leaves behind 5 siblings, brothers Rene (Marjorie), Rocky (Diane), Greg (Debbie), and sisters Claudette (Jack) and Cecile (Clarence). He also leaves to mourn a large extended family and many very dear friends as well. He was predeceased by his parents and father-in-law and mother-in-law (Hjalmar and Elsa Anderson).
