Obituary
Mervyn Wilbur Gordon was born in Melfort on September 26, 1937 to Olga and Ed Gordon. Merv was the third son in a family of seven children. He grew up on the family farm just outside of Melfort, and attended elementary and secondary school in Melfort. Merv was involved in the family construction business and farming. He enjoyed farming with Blair and took in many farm shows in Canada and the US. He was still interested in farming in his later years, reading up on machinery and technology and often shared interesting articles. Seeding and harvest, he spent most days out at the farm, always willing to help out. He enjoyed meals in the field and visiting with all who were there. He liked traveling with Blair and travelled to several United States areas, Costa Rica and Australia. The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville was a highlight. They also attended many family reunions and enjoyed being reunited with relatives. Many return trips were made to visit relatives for special occasions. Merv loved telling stories of these trips and their visits. He had a great memory for people and events of the past. In former years he liked watching all sports, especially hockey. He enjoyed playing table and card games, often till the wee hours of the morning. Merv spent 70 years of his life as a diabetic. He accepted his diabetes and understood what he needed to do to live with the disease, maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Merv lived a quiet, contented life and was always grateful for family and friends. Merv passed away suddenly on November 22. He was predeceased by his parents: Olga and Ed Gordon, brothers: Blair and Lorne, brothers-in-law: Wayne Malmgren and Al Shaner, and sister-in-law: Muriel Gordon. He is survived by his siblings: Wayne Gordon, Marilyn Malmgren, Carol Shaner, Dale (Jean), sister-in-law: Kathy Gordon as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
