Ted was born on SW 3-38-16 W2, thirteen miles north of Quill Lake. He attended Crocus Vale School to Grade 6. Upon the death of his father, the family moved to Saskatoon, and Ted completed his education at Bedford Road Collegiate and the Saskatoon Technical Collegiate Institute. In 1935 they moved to Pathlow where he met Betty, and they were married December 10, 1940. Ted served five years in the R.C.A.F. Pay Section in Canada. After the war, he managed Beaver Lumber yards in Pathlow and St. Brieux for eight years. In 1956 they moved to Melfort where Ted held the position of Secretary-Treasurer with the Melfort School Unit No. 56 for 25 years, retiring in 1982. Ted's love of fishing, hunting, camping, and the outdoors has been passed on to many of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In the early 60's, Ted and Betty built a cabin at Eagle Lake, where extended family and friends spent many happy times. Upon retirement, they built a log cabin at La Ronge, and enjoyed many happy years there. During this time, Ted helped plan and build three log cabins at Camp Okema to fulfill his vision of campers enjoying indoor activities and worship while overlooking the lake. These cabins were one of his proudest achievements. In 2008 they moved to the Palisades Retirement Residence in Saskatoon. Ted served on the Tenants' Association, attended St. John's Cathedral, went for long walks along the riverbank, and played as much bridge as possible. He became famous for his homemade bread, which was often given away, accompanied by Betty's homemade jam or Ted's marmalade. Ted was active in the Anglican Church for most of his life. He was a licensed Lay Reader for 28 years, and was one of the first recipients of the Diocesan Order of Saskatchewan in 2002. Ted and Betty had four children – Neale, Myrna, Brenda, and Lauri -- nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Ted took great pride in his family and its history and traditions. He loved get-togethers, celebrations, reunions, or gatherings of any kind. He believed that there was always room at the table for one more.
