Obituary
Stanley Rae Padgett passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by his family on March 24th, 2022. His passing comes with sadness and heavy hearts, but hearts full of love and memories. Stan was born December 29th, 1934 at City Hospital in Saskatoon. He was born to Albert and Pearl Padgett and was the eldest of their four children. He spent his childhood years growing up on the farm in Sonningdale, SK before moving to Maymont in 1951 for his first job as a meat cutter. 2 years later, he moved to Kinistino to continue his career in the meat business, working for Harold Dodds. Stan worked in the meat shop for many years until becoming a co-owner and purchasing Kinistino Meats in 1969. He had a fulfilling career of 40 years as a meat cutter. At the young age of 24, Stan met the love of his life, Frances. The two were married August 4th, 1961 in Kinistino. 4 years later, they welcomed the birth of their son, Douglas Rae Padget. The three of them spent many years camping, taking family vacations and playing hockey at different rinks across the province. Stan was an avid sports fan all his life. From managing his son and the Kinistino Bantam Hockey team early on, to always being in the stands at the PA Minto games. Stan had many passions in life, he was a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan and loved to watch the Saskatchewan Roughriders play. He played hockey with the Kinistino Old Timers and curled for many years. He loved to golf and enjoyed 45 years on the course. His greatest passion, however, was Waskesiu. Over 60 years of memories were made throughout the summers spent there with his family and grandkids. Stan was an active member of the community. He was an Associate Member of the Kinistino Legion and volunteered serving Meals on Wheels and for the Fire Department for over 15 years. Stan was widely known around Kinistino and will be dearly missed in the community and by his golf and curling friends. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Pearl Padgett; brothers Gerald Padget and Lyle Padget and his cherished pets, Chip, Rosco and Toby. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Frances; his son, Doug; 3 grandchildren, Rachel (Aaron) Hill, Taylor Padget and Andrew Padget; his treasured great granddaughter, Reese Hill; his sister Yvonne Padget and sisters-in-law Pauline Padget and Lynda Padget; along with many nieces and nephews. Stan truly cherished his family, often referring to us as “his greatest gift.” He loved us all, and we will forever love and cherish him in our hearts. Our family wishes to thank the nurses, Dr. Ige and the staff at the Melfort Hospital for such true compassion and care. Family and friends wishing to make a donation in Stan’s name may do so to the Kinistino Cemetery Society Inc. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
