Jean was born in Kelowna, BC to William and Georgina Appleton. She took all her schooling in Kelowna and then attended Normal School. She taught in White Rock and Kelowna and still had gifts from her students to this day. Jean met the love of her life in January 1960, when a red-headed young man by the name of Rob Serviss, who came to visit his uncle, the minister of her church. After Rob returned to Saskatchewan, she took the initiative to write him a note and the rest is history. They were married in Kelowna on January 9, 1961. They started married life in Saskatchewan on Uncle Bert and Aunt Margaret’s farm in a small house. Brent William was born while they lived there. In 1964, they bought Lang Dunlop’s farm south of Kinistino. Here Darren Robert and Leanne Joan joined the family. They were further with the birth of Shawn Patrick, eleven years later. Jean was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved large family gatherings and always provided an excellent meal and homemade bread! She took pride in her yard and loved sewing for the grandkids. For every family wedding or graduation, another quilt was made. Jean welcomed every daughter or son-in-law with open arms and treated them as her own. Her joy increased with each new grandchildren and even more so when her great-granddaughter arrived! On June 30, 2005 Jean lost her life partner, Rob, and the spark left her. With health and mobility issues, her life changed drastically and the rest of her years were spent quietly, with frequent trips to visit family. She adapted to life in Diefenbaker Place and made new friends there. Jean cherished the time spent with family and friends. Jean had a deep faith and love for God. She was very active in her church when her health permitted. The last years she took part in a Sunday evening Life Group and a Senior Bible Study. She always had her bible beside her favourite chair at home. On October 3rd Jean rejoined her love, Rob, and her Lord in their heavenly home. She is happy and at peace now. Jean is survived by her son Brent (Rhonda), Luke and Leah; son Darren (Shelly), Zachary and Carden; daughter Leanne (Kevin), Amanda, Danielle (Doug) and Mackenzie; Tyrel (Jennifer); son Shawn (Sara), Blaze and Ava; brother Derry (Deanna) and family; brothers-in-law Jim(Yvonne) and family, George (Marg) and family and Ken (Karen) and family. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Georgina; infant brother, Billy; step-father, Earl; parents-in-law, Samuel and Marion.
