Obituary
Margaret Lucille Graham of the Melfort area passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Margaret was born to Mae and Carl Carlson at Davidson, Saskatchewan on March 24, 1925. She spent the early years of her life with her parents on a farm south west of Davidson. In June of 1932 her sister June was born. The fall of 1932, the Carlson family moved to Melfort and Margaret went to Stoney Creek School. March of 1934 there was another move to a farm in the Thaxted District. In the fall Margaret began going to Thaxted School. She was overjoyed to have her friend, from Davidson, Muriel Paddock already attending Thaxted School. After completing grade eight Margaret continued going to the one room school where she took grade nine and ten and some grade eleven subjects by correspondence. It was during the time that Margaret was going to Thaxted School that a very special teacher, Miss Susie Gerrish, organized the Farm Girl’s Club and the Farm Boy’s Club. This sparked Margaret’s interested in baking and in sewing and she enjoyed both through the remainder of her life. During the Second World War, the girls and boys were encouraged to help on the farm so Margaret spent many hours driving tractor and helping where she could. She loved animals especially the horses. Margaret rode horseback about as soon as she could walk. The winter of 1948 she had the privilege of attending the Madeleine School of Sewing in Saskatoon and received her dressmaking diploma in June of that year. She was at home during the following months and did some sewing for folks in the area. On December 27, 1950 Margaret and Jack Graham were married. They lived on their farm a short distance north east of Melfort. Jack and Margaret had two sons, Charles Carl and Colin Ferguson. Margaret loved the country and enjoyed gardening and all the aspects of farm life. Jack and Margaret were both members of St. James Presbyterian Church and worked in the Sunday School for many years. Two of Margaret’s favourite Bible verses were; “Casting all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you.” – 1st Peter 5:7 and “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13. Margaret leaves to mourn her son Charlie, Marlene and her family; her son Colin, Lisa and her family; her special niece Helen Galbraith as well as other nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents, her sister, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law as well as many good friends. She was always thankful for the relatives and friends God had given to her. Funeral service was held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dave MacPherson officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Margaret, may be directed to a charity of choice.
