Obituary
Frank Woods died on Remembrance Day in Melfort Union Hospital with his son Steven and Steven’s wife Sonshine
holding his hand. Frank’s wife of 67 years Dorothy had just moved from Melfort Hospital two weeks earlier to a retirement
home in Guelph, Ontario, with Frank planning to follow presently. Frank’s other three children Dianne,
Patrick and
Michael were also unable to get to Melfort in time to say goodbye.
Frank, who was born and lived his entire life in Melfort, was loved dearly by family and friends and will be greatly missed .
A WWII veteran (RCAF) who entered the service at 17, Frank was an active builder in the community over the years as
a businessman, councilman, founding member of the Melfort Golf Club, and active in many local issues and projects.
Frank loved hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, spending time doting over his house, yard and trees and spending time with
his growing family and steadfast friends at
the lake, and in his immaculate yard under a favourite willow tree.
Frank was an incurable story teller the
same stories never stopped getting better year after year! Frank’s last hours
were filled with retellings of many of his favourite fun and funny stories about his friends and family no
surprise to any of
us that knew him. His very last thoughts were of his extended family and his concern that everyone was alright. Frank
loved life and
only moved on when he was fully assured his wife and family were safe and sound.
On the morning following Frank’s passing his family were en route to Saskatoon and were treated to a beautiful crisp fall
sunrise with a stunning blue and red streaked sky, and during this quiet drive were fortunate to encounter a herd of deer
wandering languidly across the road, a wolf poised atop a rolled straw bale, a coyote lazing in the morning sun, and
numerous migrating geese and ducks hanging around just a few more days before winter ... to help say Frank a fond
farewell. Frank would have loved the morning and the experience as he loved many other glorious Saskatchewan
dawns. Frank was thrilled to have enjoyed one last trip out spotting ducks and sharing stories with his oldest friends just
a few weeks earlier.
Frank is survived by his wife Dorothy (nee Greig), his children Dianne Yvonne (Bill Pier), Patrick Thomas (Nadine),
Michael Frank (Lynn), Steven Gregory (Sonshine) his grandchildren Martin (Joanne), Christian (David), Greger, Andrea
(Scott), Jeff (Kate), Travis (Chantry), Hannah, Kiara, Caelyn and his great grandchildren Liam, Jonah and Isabel. Frank
is son of George Alexander Woods (18871954)
and Elizabeth Bertha Wiggins (18921983)
; brother of Roy Archer, Jean
Roberta, Catherine Elise and Maxine.
There will be a private family service as soon as possible. Donations are encouraged on behalf of the Melfort Union
Hospital via the North Central Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 1480, Melfort SK S0E1A0.
