Obituary
Larry Dwayne Walter Schmidt, 60, of Medicine Hat, passed away May 2018. He was born September 2, 1957 to Ellen and Lester Schmidt, in Melfort, Saskatchewan. Dwayne attended Melfort Schools and completed his Millwright & Welding Certificates through Regina. Dwayne married Fiona Sutherland in May 1983. They lived mostly in Edmonton with their three children until their divorce in 1992. Dwayne’s trade took him throughout Alberta, B.C., the Yukon and Saskatchewan working on everything from mines and mills, to power plants. He loved the math, the precision and the science behind his work.
Dwayne was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing, camping and adventures! Everybody he met was a friend that he didn’t know yet. One of his most remarkable skills was learning how to say “Have the very best day possible” in every language. His caring nature, shown in random acts of kindness to friends and often to total strangers, touched many.
Dwayne was predeceased by his mother; Ellen Schmidt (Woods); brother Donald Arthur; and son Dwayne Rylan Fraser. He is survived by his children: Willow Ann and Anson Berry Mowat. He is also survived by his father, Lester Schmidt, and six siblings: Leslie Schmidt (Trevor Lee); Carole Anne Holmstrom; Karen Rowell (Malcolm); Kathryn Jensen (Kim); Jennifer Schmidt Birdrow; Geri Shingoose and numerous nephews, nieces and family.
Memorial contributions in memory of Larry may be directed towards the purchase of a Memorial Bench C/O Kathy Jensen, P.O. Box 56, Aetena, AB T0K 1Y0
