Please share a memory of Selena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Selena Mae Redgwell was born in Melfort, on June 9th,1983 and she left us too soon, on Nov 10th, 2022. It has given comfort to many of us, that she chose Grandma and Grandpa Rheaume’s wedding anniversary to join them. She leaves behind her parents Jim and Val, her siblings Tonda (Joe Wilson), Trina (Vincenzo De Palma) Amanda (Andrew Drapak) and Kipp (Matt Eisler). As well as her beloved nephew Enzo (with whom she shared a birthday), and nieces Brooklynn and Huntley. So many other children, who called her “Auntie Selena” will also miss her tremendous presence in their lives. Her tween and teenage years were spent practicing Tae Kwon Do, and then moving on to get a black belt in karate, and a blue belt in kickboxing. No doubt those years are what gave her the confidence and strength she is known for. She moved to Calgary in 2002 and met friends that became her family, the proof of that showed itself in the last 3 years when they entertained and cared for her. She lived in 2 places in her short life; the farm and Calgary, but she basked in the sun on countless beaches and near pools surrounded by palm trees all her life. The love of sunshine surely came from Mom and all those summers spent on the houseboat. Her other joy in life was babies. Babies were her everything. So many of those babies became children who still call her Auntie. Work friends benefitted in her love of high calorie treats, and often had special requests for her baking spurts. I’m sure they will be missed, almost as much as her quick humour. Celebrity gossip was her favorite reading material, and she would look at you in disgust if you mixed up a movie star’s name or didn’t know that the “It Couple” had broken up. She also was the person to ask if you needed a good series to binge, or a great movie to watch. The only thing faster than her quick wit, was her super fast stride. Anyone who tried to follow her to a sushi restaurant, or from one store to another, can talk of losing their breath just trying to keep up to her. She fought hard these last three years and made sure hardly anyone understood just how hard. Every moment that she felt well, she used effectively. There were constant shopping trips, meals out, visits with friends, cuddles with kids and air miles accumulated. She traveled more in the last year than most people do in a decade. She chased the sun with friends and family and made a point of visiting everyone she could. Photos were taken, the laughter was loud, and stories abound. And occasionally, a Bellini was enjoyed. Please remember her courageous spirit, her opinionated attitude, and her generous heart. But if you remember her amazing hair, perfect eyebrows, and immaculate nails, she’d be satisfied with that too. She loved Christmas, so if you haven’t decorated yet, go outdo yourself this year. Think of her while you’re doing it and know that she’s enjoying it with you.
