Rennie Edwin Hanson
1941-2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Rennie Edwin Hanson announce his passing on July 14, 2024 at RUH in Saskatoon. Rennie was born on the farm north of Weldon on May 1, 1941 the eldest son of Frank and Gerda (nee Pearson) Hanson and he passed away at the age of 83 with his loving wife Ruth of 62 years and his daughter Laurie and granddaughter Kyra by his side.

Rennie spent his youth learning the art of hunting, fishing and farming from his father and uncles. From these mentors he gained his love of all animals and the great outdoors which continued throughout his  life.

In the fall of 1962 he married the love of his life Ruth Mydland. They had 2 children, Brian and Laurie.
For a short time, early in their marriage, he worked the oil rigs. He worked as a welder for a few years  in  PA. Rennie was not only just a farmer, he was an entrepreneur and inventor. He created and brought to life many inventions as lots of people have witnessed his creativity first hand. He started his own business of insulating which was successful for many years. He was also a jack-of-all-trades, welding, fabricating, working on engines, and helping livestock for any neighbour that needed his help.

Rennie was also known for his great sense of humour which was seen every year in the Kinistino Roundup and Prince Albert parades winning ribbons with the floats. One of note was the outhouse float! He was known for his vivid blue eyes and mischievous chuckle  especially when  regaling us of his schoolhouse pranks which we all loved.

Rennie also loved going to dances, rodeos and of course fairs. Always going to dances on the weekends, playing cards and crokinole whenever he could. He loved riding all the rides at the fair. Even the big roller coasters! Never afraid of any of them. He enjoyed helping his neighbour George Folland at his rodeos with the bucking horses and bulls behind the chutes for many years.

Rennie was also a ferry operator at the Cecil Ferry which he retired from. He enjoyed this because he liked getting to know people from all walks of life. He always made time for a coffee and a visit.

In his later years he enjoyed his calves that he had every summer with his best farmhand Ty.

He was predeceased by his father, Frank Hanson, mother,  Gerda Pilling (nee Pearson), step-father, Art Pilling, brother, Gerald Hanson, daughter-in-law, Zoe Hanson, father-in-law, Ragnvald Mydland, mother-in-law, Annie Mydland, sister- in-law, Emma Mydland as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Hanson, son, Brian Hanson, daughter, Laurie Smith, granddaughters Kyra and Megan Smith, and grandson Logan Smith.

He will be forever missed by all who knew him.Rennie Edwin Hanson
