Diana Elizabeth Sinden (nee Fenty), age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on August 2, 2024, in Tisdale, SK after bravely facing Alzheimer's for several years.
She was born on December 7, 1945, in Saskatoon, SK to parents James (Jim) and Florence (Ethel) Fenty with older siblings Tom and Frances. Growing up, Diana spent as much time as possible with her dad learning how to fix things, change oil, gardening and riding the trains he worked on. As a teenager she rode the train solo to BC to help pick fruit at her aunt and uncle's orchard.
It was love at first sight when Diana met her soulmate, Bill, on a blind date at Redberry Lake. They were married in Saskatoon on June 29, 1968, and were an excellent example for 56 years of how to work through the highs and lows of life together. She enjoyed secretarial work for two years before becoming a full-time home maker and mother to Roy and Bonnie. She touched many lives over the years with family moves to Young, Preeceville, Landis, Beatty and finally Newmarket Long Term Care in Tisdale. Diana loved camping, canoeing, bible study, yard and garden work, coffee with neighbours, connecting with friends and family on the phone, and an endless amount of volunteer work with community organizations and leading worship in Presbyterian and United churches around the province. She taught her kids to have an imagination and find the wonder in nature and was always available to chaperone and chauffeur for their activities with hockey, figure skating, ball, and air cadets. Diana was well known for her April Fools' pranks and loved to make people laugh. Even in the depths of her dementia she would get a twinkle in her eye when teasing a care home staff member. She loved playing, baking, writing stories, and reading with her grandchildren but the most fun was always a snowball fight. She will be missed dearly.
In her last days, Diana referenced Matthew 9:22 "Jesus turned, and seeing her said, 'Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.'"
Diana is survived by her husband Beverly (Bill) Sinden, son Roy (Yvonne) Sinden, daughter Bonnie (Dwayne) Pshyk, and grandchildren Stephanie (Chad) Bernier, Sarah Hebert (Austin Tuchak and daughter Gemini), Owen Sinden, Chantelle (Connor) Segovia, Jeffrey Pshyk.
A private family service will be held at Strongfield Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Melfort Salvation Army, Alzheimer's Society, or a charity of your choice.
