Walter N. Jansen was born in Saskatoon on November 26, 1949. He was the second child & eldest son of Goldie & John Jansen.
Walt grew up with his 7 brothers & sisters on the family farm near Beechy, SK. He was part of the 4H, showing his show calves. As a teenager he worked on his uncle’s farm near Dubuc, SK. He went to school at the Queen Elizabeth country school then graduating Grade 12 from Dinsmore School.
After high school he worked for farmers in Elrose & then Archie Ashbacher at Major, SK. Walt then began working as a grain buyer for United Grain Growers beginning at Leach Siding, then West Bend, Love and Kinistino, SK. He worked for UGG for 24 yrs., then 2 short term job before starting at Bourgault Industries in St. Brieux as a metal fabricator. He retired from Bourgault at the age of 67 (twice) after 24 yrs. The after a few months starting part time at Taylors Auctions in Melfort. He worked spring to fall & had returned to work just before he became ill. Walt worked hard all his life, but he enjoyed his hobbies too. He was a very handy carpenter general fix it man. Walt was also involved in Boy Scouts, curling, Communities in Bloom & Girl Guides. With other members of Communities in Bloom he built the gazebo at Mathers Park, pergola at Heritage Garden, bridge on the walking trail in Kinistino. As a member of the Heritage Lake Provincial Girl Guide camp, he with other volunteers, spent many days building, fixing the camp buildings and general maintenance. He enjoyed gardening as
well with Joanne – though he usually didn’t know the names of most of the plants & flowers.
When he was working at Love, SK. he met Joanne when she started working at the Nipawin Hospital in the fall of 1979. They were married in May 1980.They had 2 daughters: Stacy & Jessica. In 1988 they moved to Kinistino where Walt worked at the UGG elevator. They became part of the town and church communities as both Walt & Joanne were involved in many community groups.
In May 2024 he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Unfortunately, it was too advanced for successful treatment and was able to come home at the end of June. He enjoy his summer & fall visiting with family & friends & puttering in his yard & shop.
Walt lost his battle with lymphoma December 8, 2024, while in the Melfort Hospital.
Walter was predeceased by their daughter Stacy (2013); parents Goldie Jansen (1993), John Jansen (2003), brother Bob (2013). Mother-in-law Beatrice Reiter (1989), father- in-law Valentine Reiter (2020) & brothers-in-law Fred Beatty & Clarence Nelson.
Walt is survived by his loving wife Joanne; daughter Jessica (Patrick) Fisher; granddaughters Abigail & Madison. His sisters Judy (Jim) Lawes; Joyce (Bill) Dopko; Marg Beatty; Lee Jansen. His brothers Tom (Deb) Jansen; Howie (Michelle) Jansen. Also, by many nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews.
