Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7 Vernon Clifford Paul was born in the Melfort Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 19, 1939, to Clifford and Emily Paul. He was the eldest of three children. He grew up and worked on the farm in Taylorside; a small community of families between Beatty and Kinistino, SK. He met the love of his life Elaine Halvorson in 1968. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 27th, 2021. He loved his children and grandchildren greatly and loved sharing his passion of sports with them. He was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. Vernon loved the work of the farm, for which he thanked his dad, Clifford, and Jim Audette in teaching him the ways of seed time and harvest. At the age of 58, he suffered some health problems which forced him to retire from the farm. He soon took a position as a Commissionaire at the Melfort Hospital. He loved the responsibility of keeping watch over the hospital and taking time to visit with people he met there. After a few years, Vernon went to work for the RM of Flett Springs. He looked forward to going in early for a coffee and to catch up with the other men who worked there. He took great pride in keeping the district’s ditches well maintained. In 2019 at the age of 80 he retired. Faith was an important part of Vernon’s life. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at 18 years old. He was a committed member of Taylorside Gospel Hall where he often led the assembly in singing. He taught his faith to his kids through his actions: reading from the bible every morning after breakfast, displaying great hospitality to anyone who came into their home, and the importance of belonging to a church family. On Oct. 11th, Thanksgiving Day after years of struggling with various illnesses, Vernon passed into the arms of Jesus. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Elaine, his eldest son Craig (Jenny), his daughter Renae, and youngest son Blake (Amy), grandchildren: Bryden Paul, Addison Paul, Nathan Rink (Joelle), Ella Rink, Morgan Rink, and Gibson Paul and Paisley Paul. He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Karen Payne (Sam), Heather Pugh (Harold), and many nieces and nephews that he loved like his own.
